Accessibility at Friends of Villa Grande

Friends of Villa Grande wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, or magnification. This page says what we have done, what we know still falls short, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard most organizations and public agencies use.

What we have done (September 2026)

• Every meaningful photo on the site now has a written description for screen readers.
• Keyboard users can see where they are: links, buttons and form fields show a visible focus ring, and a "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page jumps past the menu.
• Each page has one main heading and an ordered outline beneath it.
• Menu text and links meet the minimum contrast ratio for readability.
• Our donation, membership, login and contact forms announce their field names, and required fields say so.
• Store product images are announced with the product's name.
• Our contact form is built to be fully accessible and works with a keyboard alone.

An independent audit of the site's main pages with the axe-core accessibility engine on September 22, 2026 found no WCAG 2.1 AA violations.

Known limitations

Our website runs on the Wild Apricot membership platform. Some parts of every page are generated by that platform and cannot be changed by us or by our web developer. We have added corrections that run when a page loads, but a few limitations remain:

• The event calendar view and some parts of the online store and member directory use platform markup that is harder to navigate with a screen reader than the rest of the site.
• Documents linked from the site, such as PDF and Word files, may not all be tagged for screen readers.
• Some photographs sit in page backgrounds and are described by a nearby caption rather than a hidden description.

Tell us about a problem

If any part of this site is hard for you to use, email friends@villagrande.org with the page address and what happened. We will provide the information another way, such as by email or phone, and we will use your report to fix the page. We aim to reply within five business days.

How we keep it this way

Volunteers who update this site follow a short accessibility guide covering image descriptions, headings, link wording and documents. Peter Otte Productions maintains the site's accessibility layer and re-checks the site after significant changes.
