Emergency Information

Subject to the impact of heavy rains, flooding, earthquakes and power outages, Villa Grande has a community-based emergency response system to assist until first responders (9-1-1) can assist residents. Be sure to look at our Emergency Preparedness page for resources and more information on planning ahead.

  • Floods: Information on flood conditions is available through the National Water Prediction Service.
    • In the 1995 flood, the river went to 48 feet which was enough to come up into the Patterson Point Preserve sign and the utility (Portapotty) area in the preserve. In 1986 was the 100-year flood mark, when the river went to almost 50 feet, which is where the two driftwood “sentinels” mark the entrance to the Preserve. Both houses next to the Preserve entrance had water in their basements during the 1986 flood. The area of VG between Russian River Avenue, 3rdd & second are higher than surrounding streets & water did not enter the streets.
    • Here is a video from 1986, showing emergency vehicles and the height of the water at the Villa Grande General Store on East Street and other locations around town and in Monte Rio
  • GMRS radio: Sonoma County has established an emergency network of GMRS radios that allow communities to be in contact with emergency responders and other community members. Villa Grande and Monte Rio have their own network of users. For more information, see the "Getting Comfortable With Your GMRS Radio" presentation created by Jim Beck.
  • Power outages: PGE.com or San Francisco Chronicle PG&E Outage Map.
  • Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS): Prepare for Power Down.
  • River level at Guerneville bridge: NOAA California Nevada River Forecast Center
  • Road closures: Sonoma County or CalTrans maps
  • Weather radio: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Authority (NOAA) Radio broadcasts weather information on specific FM radio frequencies, that are not your standard home FM radio. These broadcasts use frequencies in the high band FM, specifically 162,400 to 162.550 MHz. To receive these broadcasts, you will need a special weather radio that can be tuned to these frequencies. GMRS radios also provide 24-7 weather coverage.
  • Water quality: Sonoma County Environmental Health test results
